Our story

The story of Verklagnir is one of steady progress, craftsmanship and ambition. From its beginnings as a plumbing service company, the company has grown step by step, built strong specialist knowledge, brought in new manufacturers and established a solid position in Iceland in heat pumps, heat exchangers, piping solutions and building control systems.

1993

Verklagnir SF founded

Gunnlaugur Jóhannesson, a master plumber, and his wife Elín Pétursdóttir founded Verklagnir as a plumbing service company. From day one, the company was built on professionalism, trust, and personal service, which created strong relationships with individuals and companies who trusted Verklögnum for regular service and a variety of projects.

1999

Transition to a limited company

As Verklagnir’s operations expanded, converting the business into a limited company became a natural next step. The team grew, the projects became larger and new opportunities opened up. During this period, Verklagnir handled regular assignments for Nóatún stores, deCODE genetics and several other trusted customers.

2000

Purchase of company premises

Verklagnir purchased a 200 m² property in Garðabær, which became an important base for the company. The premises provided space for building frames and manifolds, tool storage, staff facilities and an office for bookkeeping. The purchase strengthened the foundation for the company’s continued development.

2007

The first heat pump

Verklagnir began working with Thermia AB and imported its first heat pump for a major customer who wanted to test a new solution. This was followed by training with Thermia to build specialist knowledge in heat pumps. It marked the beginning of a new and important chapter in the history of Verklagnir.

2011

A strategic shift for Verklagnir

Verklagnir leased retail and warehouse premises in Kópavogur and, at the same time, decided to focus on the import and sale of heat pumps. This decision shifted the company’s emphasis from traditional plumbing services toward more specialised solutions and a more focused product strategy. The company also began exploring other products that could strengthen its offering and support plumbing professionals alongside heat pump solutions.

2011

SWEP heat exchangers

Verklagnir entered into an agreement with SWEP AB in Sweden to become a wholesaler for the company’s heat exchangers. SWEP is a well-known brand in Iceland and manufactures high-quality heat exchangers with a strong reputation. The company was also a pioneer in the development of brazed plate heat exchangers and, for many years, manufactured heat exchangers for Danfoss under the Danfoss brand.

2012

Daikin Europe

After around two years of discussions with Daikin Europe, Verklagnir reached an agreement to become a wholesaler for Daikin in Iceland. The company first began importing air-to-air heat pumps, before expanding the range to include air-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps. The partnership also opened up significant opportunities in industrial solutions and has given Verklagnir an important advantage and a strong position in the Icelandic market.

2015

MuoviTech AB

As sales of water-to-water geothermal heat pumps increased significantly, Verklagnir began importing energy collection pipes from the Swedish manufacturer MuoviTech. The company produces specialised collector pipes that improve fluid movement during circulation, helping to increase heat transfer and improve system performance.

2018

Move to Fossháls

With the premises on Smiðjuvegur no longer large enough and sales continuing to grow, Verklagnir leased new retail and warehouse premises that were adapted specifically for the company’s operations. The warehouse capacity was expanded significantly for both heat pumps and heat exchangers, strengthening the company’s ability to meet increasing demand.

2019

Sentinel

Verklagnir attended training with Sentinel, a company specialising in corrosion control and treatment of piping systems. Following the training, Verklagnir entered into an agreement to import and sell cleaning products, corrosion protection and leak-sealing solutions. The products have been well received by the market and have become popular with Verklagnir’s customers.

2020

Expansion of warehouse space

At Fossháls, Verklagnir took on additional space to further expand the warehouse. Strong sales growth had created a need for larger facilities, bringing the premises to around 500 m², of which approximately 50 m² were used for retail and the remainder for warehouse operations. The site also offered good outdoor space, where larger products were stored in containers.

2022

Syr

Verklagnir entered into an agreement with Syr in Germany to sell the company’s products in Iceland. Key products include automatic leak protection devices that can be connected to building control systems, cold-water filters with adjustable pressure and equipment designed to help ensure good water quality in piping systems.

2024

Samsung SENA

Verklagnir signed an agreement with Samsung to become the representative for Samsung Climate Solutions in Iceland, handling the import, sale and service of Samsung heating and cooling solutions. The agreement marks one of the largest milestones in the company’s history and strengthens Verklagnir’s position as a leading provider of modern energy and climate solutions.

Alongside this expansion, Verklagnir purchased a warehouse in Mosfellsbær to further strengthen its stockholding capacity.

2025

Dambat / IBO circulation pumps

Verklagnir entered into an agreement with Dambat / IBO to become the representative for the company’s circulation pumps. Dambat / IBO offers a broad and reliable range of circulation pumps, has been manufacturing pumps since 1999 and sells its products in more than 30 countries across three continents.

2026

Krókháls 5A

Verklagnir purchased the third floor at Krókháls 5A and fitted out a new showroom, offices and meeting facilities. With the move from Fossháls, the company gained a much stronger setting for its growing operations, while the showroom gives customers a clearer view of Verklagnir’s products and solutions.

Verklagnir travelled to Samsung in the Netherlands for training and signed an agreement connected to SmartThings Pro, Samsung’s latest technology in building control systems. Verklagnir is now preparing to bring the solution to market, further strengthening its position in smart and integrated building technology.
